Anyone here have any direct experience with running a Mav 88 trigger group in a 500/590? This should work, thereby having 2 safety switches; however, with the 88 trigger group installed the 500/590, the 500/590 safety block will not have a connector on the rear of the 88 trigger group to block, thereby rendering the 500/590 tang safety useless.

The other thing is the 500/590 trigger group has a travel adjust screw, & the 88 trigger group does not, although the same travel screw can be added to the 88 trigger group.

I personally don't much care for the 500/590 tang safety. Just thinking about the possibility of using the 88 crossbolt in the 500/590 receiver.

(A regular 590 still comes with the plastic trigger group. The 590A1 is the only model that comes with the metal trigger guard, which was added to comply with military procurement requirements. The 500/590/590A1 trigger group assemblies will interchange.)

If you have a Maverick 88 receiver and put an M500/590 trigger group in, your gun will no longer have a safety. If that's OK with you, then yes, it will fit.

If you put a Maverick 88 safety into an M500/590 receiver, you'll have a gun with TWO safeties, one of which (tang safety) does nothing.
Please consider engraving "Warning: Non-functional tang safety" near the tang safety if you do install a Maverick 88 trigger group. In time someone else could acquire your firearms without understanding your modification. Good luck, sir.

I would not knowingly sell a 500/590 equipped with a 88 trigger group to someone else. The change is completely reversible. That said, I also would not engrave the receiver. At least not mine.

Maybe its more bother than it's worth.

I was trying to tactfully remind folks that other people will acquire our firearms if we have drastic health problems or die, and that we ought to make certain that our firearms will be found in a safe condition. It is a sure bet that if a modification voids the warranty, the firearm is not safe for other people without a warning.

In that post I was going to write that I saw no harm in switching trigger groups when you go hunting, provided that you return the original when you come home. However, I found no reference to any kind of hunting in five pages summarizing your early posts, so I omitted my comment. Instead I suggested the engraved warning, because you get to run that one HD gun your way. That one gun is a tool and engraving it is no different than engraving a hammer. It is not a work of art and we are not purists.

I got your meaning right away, as you chose words very carefully; I just simply chose to ignore it.

Yes, sir. But I will admit that it's been a while since I've had direct experience with trigger groups...
