I have an older MB 500 that I was gifted by an elderly friend. It is in like new condition, but I am trying to learn about it. The magazine is 3+1 but I can't find any info using giggle. I am trying to learn if the mag tube can be upgraded to at least 5 shells, but every time I put 3+1, I get hits about a MB being a 3 in 1 shotgun. Any help?

I thought the 500 would hold 5 in the tube magazine? You have a plug in the magazine? You can't just add a longer tube magazine. Have you looked at how the barrel attaches to the tube magazine?

Thank you. I will check. I have read several posts about this issue - trying to do due diligence - but cannot find one piece of information. I see kits to add a longer mag tube being sold for the MB 500 - tube and spring. I am trying to find out what to look for in my mind that would say that it can't be changed.

You cannot change the length of the tube magazine unless you get a different barrel. They are inexpensive guns, if you want one that holds a bunch of shells, just buy a different 500 or Maverick 88. For the cost of a mag tube, spring and different barrel, buy a different gun. One look at how your barrel attaches to the tube magazine should make it very clear to you why you cannot put an extension on the magazine or change the length of the magazine, unless you get a different barrel.

Your gun must be a 5 shot mag tube with a wood dowel plug. Remove the barrel. Look at the end of the mag tube and you'll see a screw hole.....it's where the barrel screw goes in. turn the gun muzzle down(vertical) and shake it up and down a few times. You should be able to hear that plug going back and forth in the mag tube. Shake it till the wood dowel pokes it's nose out of that screw hole and grab the dowel with a pair of needle nose pliers and pull the dowel out the screw hole. Now you have a 5 shot magazine.
