Anyone know where to buy an adjustable choke for 500/535 ?
Ive seen a few great adjustable chokes, but I cant believe that Im not finding hundreds of them for the 500 which will supposedly work on my 535's

yeah...probably.
The one you linked to looks perfect. I just called to order and got the machine but Im going to order that one unless theres some hitch.

I have plenty of variety as far as chokes go, but you just never know what distance youre going to be nailing a squirrel at so it would be nice to have an adjustable one so I dont make mush out of one :D

My suggestion? Buy a $100 pawnshop gun with one of the adjustable choke barrels. Sell off the wood and all the parts (sans receiver) in 2-3 separate auctions (wood and slide on eBay), rest on gunbroker for $80+.

Look, now you've got a nice adjustable barrel for $20.

Set the receiver aside for use in a project.. like pick up a set of persuader parts for $90-100.

Now you've got your barrel AND a nice defense / riot gun for $120.

Lastly, if it has part #63, "Action slide spring" just go ahead and send that to me as a thank-you for this excellent advice ;-)

Lol. (But I do need the spring..)

Poly-Choke II ?

Might work for you.

Just ordered the polychoke II directly from the company.

Something others might find interesting is that the polychoke has a one year replacement warranty from my understanding while the TruGlo only seems to have 90 days.
That was THE deciding factor for me.
90 days? Even cheap electronics come with a year most of the time.

i have my doubts on bolt on poly chokes... seems some open like they should and some go from mod to improved mod. i do like the factory celect choke on the older barrels. it is convienient.

just with a given load say #8's, and a good charge say 2.75" 1200+fps, should give you a good pattern at a given distance. ummmm say a mod choke from 25-35 yds. good killing pattern and not a dog turd on the end of your gun.
i think it would be nice not to have to change chokes. i guess i always move closer instead of changing tubes

let us know how she does. may change my mind on poly's....

I took out both guns to pattern them and I have to say that anything inside 25 yards is going to completely shred a squirrel even with the imp cyl choke....probably 20 shot in any squirrel sized object in the pattern and Im hoping to leave a little squirrel for eating :D

I was thinking about reloading instead, maybe have some lighter loads for close range, then for longer distance have 1 oz or 1-1/8 oz loads but I dont know much about reloading or if that idea is even possible (seems to be given the smaller gauges available), that way up close Id have maybe half the pellet count.

The choke option just seems to be the easiest way. I have tried changing chokes in the field and its a pain in the arse on a good day for me (have some nerve damage in my hands that doesnt want to make things very easy. Id drop my fingers if they werent attached). Ill end up losing the choke, the key/wrench and half the stuff in my pocket trying to swap out a choke if I need to.
Plus the choke is something I used to use on my old 20g mossberg...loved the one on that gun.

The biggest thing is that the choke work and last for a few seasons.
MOST of the chokes that came with either 535 arent patterning as tightly as the information Im seeing on the web.
I read one chart that shows a full choke has a 40" pattern at 40 yards. Id bet money that my full choke tube would be 50" minimum at that range. The others tubes were a bit wider than Ive seen the charts show too. Still way too many shot for what I need.
I know this is probably normal, so Im not expecting the new choke to hit the numbers exactly...I just want it to work consistently between full and cylinder, which is all I need since I have that turkey choke that was the only choke that holds the pattern they claim. That thing is something that youd have to be shooting squirrel at 90 yards to be able to have anything left to eat. Ive never seen a pattern so tight as that one is. At 20 yards you could probably put all the shot in a mans abdomen pretty easily with that thing.

40" @ 40 with an extra full factory maybe. the poly maybe for you. as for 12 ga loads you can drop down to 24gram or 3/4 oz with the right stuff. handloads you betcha. when i shoot skeet with 12 i shoot 24gram. and it does pattern mighty well. ive been sold on true lock chokes. the extended precision hunter, no wrench needed. but as you say i cannot change it as fast as a c-lect style. btw with reloading almost anything is possable. like i said choke load and distance play a major role as you prob well know. distance is a variance in 5-10 yds or thats how i calculate it squirrel hunting because i most often shoot up and away you gain a little. id like to see your patterns when you get it from full open to full shut at the same distance in 3 shot groups to see exactly whats the deal. keep us informed.

pm me if you want a nice lil #8 shot load for close work. ive got a long range #6 that will blow your mind and possably the nerves in the other hand too.

i still have a bolt with c-lect choke in 20. killer lil gun.

down with the bushy tails!
