Before you say "590A1 is parkerized" I just found a vendor that had some Catalog Number MS51663 MOSSBERG 590A1 SPECIAL PURPOSE SHOTGUN 12/20 GRS CYL 9 SH PK in stock.

The details are as shown:
Description Price
MOSSBERG 590 SPECIAL PURPOSE SHOTGUN 12/20 CYL GRS SPEED PRK
Manufacturer Mossberg
Model 590
Model Special Purpose
Action Pump
Caliber 12GA 3"
Barrel Length 20"
Finish/Color Parkerized
Grips/Stock Speedfeed
Type of Barrel Cylinder
Chamber 3"
Chokes Cylinder
Capacity 8Rd - 8 rounds
Sights Ghost Ring Sight

However, after I hastly pulled out my credit card and finalized my order, I went over to Mossberg's site and the 51663 comes up as a 590 special purpose heavy walled barrel in BLUE!

from Mossberg:
590 spcyl purpose 9 SHOT 51663 12 3" HVY WALL BBL, MTL TRIGGER GRD./SAFETY 9 20" GHOST RING¨ CYLINDER BORE 41" 14 1/2" 1 1/2" 2 1/8" MATTE BLUE SYNTHETIC (BLACK)

Has anyone bought a recent 51663 and it IS a 590A1 in park? The vendor is closed for the day and I can't call them until tomorrow morning. So, either Mossberg is wrong or this site and numerous other sites that say the 51663 is a 590A1 and park'd are wrong. According to Mossberg the model# I should have ordered is 51660.

Can anyone give me some insight so I can sleep easy tonight? Thanks!

I just found a different vendor saying that it is now park'd as of late 2007, but it is a 590 special purpose, NOT a 590A1.

If it is park'd, heavy barrel, metal trigger and safety, how cvan it be different then a 590A1?

from
http://www.gtdist.com/ProductDetail.asp ... MOSS-51663
51663 - SPECIAL PURPOSE SHOTGUN - 590® SPECIAL PURPOSE -

9 Shot heavy wall barrel
Metal Trigger Guard / Safety
12 gauge
20" Heavy Wall Barrel
Parkerized Finish as of late "07"
Black Synthetic Stock
Ghost Ring Sights
Ambidextrous, thumb-operated safety
Includes a free gun lock

Even MORE confusion:
Bud's has the 51663 as a 590A1.

I believe they are parked.
Mossberg is eat up with marketing crap and where they used to have the SP/LE-Mil line they now have that split into several lines. That way they can use Tier 1 Operator terms and create more absurd product types by changing minor cosmetic features and confuse the hell out of anybody trying to figure out what shotgun they want.

Try and order from their website, it gives me a headache.
I needed a Barrel and a Rail mount.
I still have a headache

Thanks for the replies. I talked to my vendor and they were not much better in clearing up this matter. Before they ship though they are going to check the finish and if it is NOT park'd then they will just refund my CC.

I will post pics if and when I get this 590A1.

I like Mossberg, but I am getting more and more frustrated with them. If I ddin't already have a couple Mossberg Shotguns I would ditch the company all together and go over to the dark side with Remington... As it is I had my Mossberg 930SPX barrel threaded from Rem-chokes instead of Mossberg's accu-choke as I forsee a new turkey gun in 870 and wanted to be able to swap chokes for 3-gun.

It is kind of hard to explain it without you actually seeing it.
A parkerized or phosphated finish is going to be rather rough, and is usually grey. It may have soem greenish tint to it, or even brown. Once it is oiled it will darken.
A matte bluing finish will be smoother, and usually be more black. It doesn't change its appearance as much when it is oiled.

How can you tell the difference between parkerized and matte blue?
I have a 50667 that I've never seen on the Mossberg site and the box didnt say anything about finish.
Here is a picture taken from M24's collection

Matte blue 930SPX on the left and park'd 590A1 on the right.

As for your shotgun, every site I went to says it is "blue" I am guessing it is the regular shiny blue.
