This very inexpensive, polymer O/U really has me intrigued!
Has anyone actually seen one in person or maybe even bought and shot one.
I think that this thing would be fantastic for a little SC, Skeet and some Upland Hunting.

I would really love to hear a review form any owners out there.

Thanks!

I hadn't heard of one till now, but going off mossbergs track record with over unders, well....
They can't be any worse that the Silver Reserves....

I'm hopeful that they've learned something it the past few years.....

I figured it was a silver reserve with plastic furniture and maybe a black coating...

Different receivers, the shape where the attach to the stock is different... probably the same company, though.

It's an interesting concept....

The local shop had one, but didn't liked the way it looked.
Didn't even bother to pick it up.
I think my $400 would be better spent on a different shotgun!
But maybe if it was $300 I'd be more interested I'm sure it would function like it should.
Ugly guns look better after you own them for awhile too!

I'm thinking that if you're a diehard fan of O/U's and are looking for something to use rough in a duck blind, then this might just be the ticket (assuming it works). Personally I don't know anyone who owns one, so I can't speak to the reliability.

Bump

So, I've been hunting for almost 40 years and I've never been duck hunting. Odd I know, but my hunting lease doesn't have duck ponds. Essentially, dove season leads into deer season that leads into dove season that leads into spring turkey season that leads into saltwater fishing until dove season the next year.

This year my buddies and I decided to change leases and low and behold, there is a pond full of ducks on it! Needless to say, we are all excited about the new opportunity but I've got a small problem ~ I shoot an older gun that doesn't handle steel shot. I've thought about using Nice shells, but the cost is ridiculous. At $30 for 10 shells, I'm better off buying a really cheap gun that can take a beating.

I found one of these Maverick O/Us at my local Academy and the price is right so has anyone actually shot a Maverick O/U?

Yes I have one that I bought used for like 220.00 at LGS. Looked like it hadn't been used. Never shot a double gun before and never shot clay pigeons but I have to say for me that the gun seems to fit me, point well, barrels are pretty right on, don't notice any heavy triggers when focused on clays, always goes bang, no doubles, and surprisingly I'm hitting 3/4's of my shots ( I know it's not great but I'm still new). Shooting target loads (2-3/4" 1145 fps 1-1/8 oz) no recoil to speak of so I am very happy with it. Now having said all of that I only have about 50 rounds thru it so time will tell but for the price I've learned I like this style of shooting and may in time upgrade but while it's working I have absolutely to do that. If you get one at a price you like I'd get it and enjoy it.

Since I posted what I wrote above I've had the opportunity to look at one used by one of the members at my local gun club. He's an upland hunter who occasionally hunts waterfowl from a blind, and according to him the thing is certainly solid enough and can take hard use. He said it hadn't failed him yet, but he'd only owned it a couple of months. He was using it for clays when I saw it that day, and he was hitting just about every one with no issues.

One thing I did notice when he handed it to me was how stiff the action was. You need the arms of a gorilla to get the thing open, but he was hoping it would smooth out over time. He let me fire a couple of shells from it, and the recoil wasn't too bad from a light gun. It seemed to point well, but I found it a bit front-heavy, but then I have little experience with doubles, and normally don't use anything with more than one barrel. If you're used to O/U's then this is probably not an issue.

In the end my opinion was the same. If you like to use O/U's exclusively (and don't care about using shells bigger than 3"), and want a hard-use gun for the boat or duck blind, this might do quite nicely.

My guess would be that Nobody has ever shot one these.
I asked the question back on Fri Dec 31, 2010
That is a long time to have NOBODY say they have shot one in the Mossberg forum.
I haven't shot one. but Im not much of an O/U fan either. when I get to the point in life that I just have to have one, Ill get one. For now, its not even on the radar.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.

i just got mine yesterday and i plan on going out this Sunday to try it out on the trap range. i have seen some bad reviews about this gun...time will only tell i guess. i will post if the weather holds and i get out Sunday.
I realize that this is a cheap o/u but for the $390 i spent on it i think it was worth a whirl. I do not intend to use this as a hunting firearm, maybe just a once or twice a week shooter.

Jkrupke,

Keep us informed, please. At least the day you shoot it at clays. Keep an informal record of the shots and if you have any problems.

Looking forward to your review. I might try one if it is satisfactory for you. I will compare it to the Condor. Both are economy guns with the Condor being $100 less expensive.

Congrats on the new Shotgun!!!

Keep us posted!!

I was at a local breast cancer charity shoot and Mossberg sent a bunch of folks up from the factory with a bunch of these to shoot with... The O/U's weren't real "pretty" to look at, but, they didn't have any malfunctions and they were busting clays right along with everybody else...

Will do. I looked are the condor also and i have held both. There was something with the condor i didnt like with the trigger but i dont remeber exactally what it was. I actually just like the all black look. Eventually I will get a better looking fancy o/u but for my needs I don't want a gun that I'm worried about the finish everytime I uncase it

I bought three of these recently. Two were Christmas gifts (including one to myself) and one was a birthday gift. One of them had a rough safety/barrel selector, but I worked on it and smoothed it up.

I like the gun, and so do the two children who received them as gifts. I like the way it handles. Plus, when you point it and pull the trigger it goes "bang", and if I do my part (which is not as often as it should be) the clay pigeons burst. What more could you want?

Despite some of the criticisms of the its styling in some of the posts, I actually like the styling. A lot of o/u shotguns look clunky, but to my eye the styling of this one is almost sleek.

So far I am a happy owner. Time will tell if the gun holds up, but I am not likely to give it very hard use, so I doubt if I will wear it out.

I bought two of them from gilbertsguns.com for under $300 each, and the third I bought from the local Big 5 on sale for $329.95.

By the way, before I bought the Mavericks I also looked at some of the Russian Remingtons. The Russians were more expensive, but I liked the Maverick better. I understand that the Russian guns have a reputation for be very rugged, and I don't think the Maverick has a track record on that score yet. Time will tell.

Went out last Sunday and put 100 rounds through the gun. Not a single problem. The trigger pull did not seem to be tougher than normal. Seemed to be right on with shots. Used steel 2 3/4 6 shot went bang everytime I pulled the trigger. Safety was a little stiff but smoothed out throughout the day will most likely get better with more use. The break action was tough at first but also did loosen up with use that day. Being so light it did have a little more kick and I had a tender shoulder but. Haven't shot that much in awhile either. All in all I am happy with it so far good deal for the money in my opinion.
