I have been looking for a shotgun for sometime now. I was at a local gun show this weekend and walking by a table full of 870 Wingmasters and expresses one gun stood out. I like the feel and the price so I bought it. Needless to say it was a 1300, just beautiful too! I had been shooting a buddy's really old Winchester model 25 and liked how heavy and bulky it was. He bought a Wingmaster about 6 months ago and I have shot it too, but frankly can't stand how light and tight the 870's feel. I always felt like I was going to break it.

Anyhow took it shooting tuesday, just some local trap and hit 15, 20 and 15. I was shooting a Imp. Mod choke and really like how I did, first time out and all.

Anyhow to the questions!

Is there anything I need to know about the gun? I clean after everytime I shoot. Anything that I need to give special attention too?

Also, I was shooting from the 16. What chokes do all you trap shooter out there favor?

Needless to say, I am very impressed with the gun. It's overall feel is great!! I bought mine used, but it looks like it wasn't shot much, no wear on any of the parts. Total cost was 175, then I spent about 50 more buying a bag, chockes, cleaning kit and the like.

Thanks all, hope to learn a lot!!

Let me Welcome you to Shotgunworld and to the wonderful world of winchester's!

hope to see you around here a lot more.

as far as trap shooting chokes, I normally use mod or mod/imp mod if shooting doubles with an O/U.
a lot of guys will use a full choke at the 16 yd line, but i use mod.

Otherwise for your choice of the 1300, I dont know of any problems with it. I have one myself. never gives me any probs.

Mike.

I took my 1300 out skeet, trap and wobble shooting today with my son. It was my first time shooting skeet with a pump and it was great fun - I managed a 22 and hit all of the doubles.

Choke-wise, I use a Mod choke for trap and bought a skeet choke. My son's been using my 1100 and I may not give this one back :D

I've added a slip on Limbsaver pad that really makes a difference.

The 1300 is a great choice. Good luck with yours

Hey All,

Thanks for the replys! I am not 100% sure of the model, I am pretty sure its just a filed gun, nothing special. Like I said I bought it used and didn't get too much info on it. I am hoping this week I can try some longer stuff, maybe 20 and 27 yards. All in all I am really enammered with the gun. It has a great feel in my hands and more importantly it just feels like it fits. I am toying with the idea of getting some new wood for it, but want to shoot it in it's factoy format for awhile.

Thanks all!!

what condition is the stock and fore arm in. If you selling these, and they are in good condition, I may be interested in them.
I don't for see me selling them off anytime in the near future. I like to get use to a gun before I set out modifing it. And the wood is what drew me too the gun, it looks very good!!

what model 1300 is it. all the 1300's are great guns, and you should never have anyproblem with it.
To tell you the truth I am not really sure, but from the Winchester web site I think it is a "Ranger." Don't really know how to tell. Any idea on how to make sure, 100%? Maybe even the year it was made?

congrats on your 1300. i bought my 1300 Black Shadow a few months ago and the owners manual says to break the gun down and oil all the parts b/c there's some kind of factory coating on the parts. one thing i would suggest is that you may try looking into getting a fiber optic sight. like Tru Glo, i use them on both my 1300's. my Black Shadow has a vent rib with bead sight, i just add the Magnum Gobble Dot sights and it helps a lot on aiming. you did really good for the first time. my first skeet was a 10 and my first trap was 17. i just use the factory mod choke.

Yup, I did that right after I bought it. Then I down loaded the owners manual. I am still planning on getting a full and extra full for trap. the Imp. Mod is working out great, but from the 27, I would like a bit more concentration. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks all!

i have a 20 gauge 1300 black shadow with a vent rib barrel. ive only put about 200 rounds through it but it hasnt done me wrong yet, i love it. I bought it from a gun dealer/ friend of mine for 180 bucks, it was a prize that some guy won and never used and traded it into him for cash. luckily i scored on the lower price, it was brand new.
