....Pudelpointer club. At 66 but in overall good health, I wasn't too sure I could see through the life of another hunting dog. And maybe I won't, but we're gonna give it a run. Been without a hunter for about 5 years since I retired my setter and then lost him 2 years ago. This one's a companion to my house Golden Retriever and they're brothers from another mother getting along quite well. Training on my own but next spring going to get with a local NAVHDA chapter and see what he can make out of me.

My PP (Memphis) is now 17 months old. Turning out to be a great dog. Smart and very willing to please! Goofy as hell when he's not hunting but once he's in the field he's all business which I like. A local NAVHDA chapter will be great for you and him. What kennel did you go through? Btw, I've met a ton of people in the pudelpointer world and all are very willing to help. If you are planning on the Natural Ability test you need to register him in Jan/Feb for a test in the following fall. They fill up fast! Or get on a waiting list & see if someone drops out. Trust me on this! You have until he's 16 months old to NA test. Not a requirement but it's good for him if you plan on the Utility Test later. Good luck with your pup. What's his name?

I haven't joined NAVHDA yet but he is registered. There's only a month or so of training days left in the local chapters here. Axel is out of Lunatic Fringe in NY.
Friend of mine in NY just got a pup from LunaticFringe. Must be his litter mate. Nice pedigree on those pups. Have fun & good luck.

Don't worry about getting a hunting dog at age 66. I'm 82 years old and have three GSP's, a three year old pup, a nine year old solid hunter and a semi-retired 13 1/2 year old. What I've done is arrange with hunting buddies for a new hunting home for the two younger dogs in case something should happen where I can't hunt them anymore. The older dog still does some limited hunting, but most likely won't be around much longer. I probably have the last hunting dog I'll ever need but have a clear conscience as to their welfare should anything happen to me.

Thanks for all the encouragement! He is my excuse to spend more time out there and putting some more rounds through some SGs that deserve more use. Not retired yet but maybe soon. A year or 2 goes by quick.
Mostly game farm birds with the occasional wild find on public land. We used to have much better bird and small game hunting, a shame. Lost my place for ducks a few years ago,so on the lookout for a new walk-in spot that actually holds some waterfowl.

I am 66 with two GWP’s — aged 10 and 5. Plan to add a third GWP in another year or so. Like RM, I also have made mutual arrangements with canine “Godparents” for my dogs.
