To all,

I was looking at a Beretta Silver Pigeon for sale, but it was slightly different than anything I had seen or read about. Based on the date code (BI, I believe, the bottom of the barrel set was pretty rough) it was made in 1997. It has a wide top rib, no mid bead and the rib has a groove down the center, like a trough. The bluing on the top rib was worn almost the full length and it was wearing under the fore end and bottom barrel. The bottom of the receiver only says Silver Pigeon. The wood had significant handling marks and it has a slight RH cast. The barrels are Mobilchoke and the rib between the barrels is solid. the chokes included are flush chokes and I think they had three total. They are asking $1700 for it which I thought was high given the current pricing of the 686 SP Sporting and the gun's condition. Sorry, I was not able to take any pictures.

Is this gun something special or just an older 686. Any feedback appreciated.

Thanks,

JD

I have one of those from around 1995. 30" MC barrels. Says sporting on the barrel. The barrels are pretty heavy. 1.54 kg. About the same weight as some of the newer 32" barrels.(1.61 kg)

I think gun being discussed is miserably over priced.

Mine is in great condition and has a Graco stock adjuster and a Kickeze pad professionally installed. And about 20 extended and flush chokes.

When I get home this summer I am going to try to sell it. I was thinking about trying to get $1200 for it. I paid $1000 15 years ago without the adjustable comb and had it added.

I bought a new SP1 Sporting to replace it. Because of my advanced age and the lighter barrels on the new gun. 4 ounces or so for the barrels. Under 8 lb overall. I like it. I use the flush chokes because of weight. I did upgrade the stock and forend with ones I have collected over the years. I paid what was quoted above for my new one at Cabelas.

I have a friend who has a Beretta 686 he wants me to help him sell. Contacted Beretta and they said according to the serial #L505XXB it was built in 1994. The model # came up as S686L505T3. I haven't examined the gun yet, but I know it has 28" bbls. Beretta said because of the age of the gun they couldn't tell me what discipline the gun was built for so I thought someone here might be able to tell from the model # if this was built as a skeet gun or a sporting model? 1cas
