The long awaited and affordable round body SxS from Tony Galazan's C.S.M.C. is finally coming. I got the e-mail announcement this afternoon, and just got off the phone after ordering mine. By the sounds in the background, the place was in CHAOS! I could never afford one of Tony's beautiful Fox guns, but this seems like a bargain. I wonder what it will do to the Ruger Gold Label. :?

I just dont understand.
What's to understand? You apparently don't think this gun (maybe any gun) is worth $2500. I do. My father made his living as a master gunsmith and custom stock maker. It was from him that I learned to appreciate quality firearms.

There are many guns that sell for $150-300. Most are perfectly serviceable, and will do the job intended. For some that's all that's necessary, but other's want something more. Same with cars. I haven't spent over $10,000 on a vehicle in years, and I'd never consider that $50K Hummer.

I'm buying this gun sight unseen, but knowning and seeing the guns that Tony produces, I'm confident I won't be disappointed. I'm not rich, and no, this gun won't make me "feel rich". Rest assured that no one's going to go hungry, and water on the morning Cheerios won't be necessary.

I doubt that there's anything I could say that would help you understand.

Mark, if you need anyone to help break it it in I'm available, hint, hint, hint. Pm me an I'll send you my mailing address.

You're gonna be shootin that other gun you stole anyway, so you might not have time to shoot the new one.
Thats why I'm volunteering to do the dirty work for you.

Hey, what are friends for, right.

I understand why you want this gun, plain an simple, its a beautiful gun an needs a good home with someone that appreciates it.

At $3000, I'd consider a new, cased, American made double (a multichoke too) with a decent bit of wood to be a bargain.

Beauty I suppose lies in the eye of the beholder. It isn't quite as snaky as a true round action a la Dickson, but I really like the general lines. However I think the engraving is horrible, overdone and pretentious; i'd order a plain one.

If I wanted a nice lightweight nippy gun for upland I'd buy one tomorrow. And if a decent stock fitter bent it to your requirements you'd have a virtually made to measure, bespoke, cased, gun for around $3500. A snip.

Consider this second hand Dickson from Basspro http://www.basspro.com/servlet/cata...og.CFPage?appID=36&viewMode=list&catID=52&direction=DESC&gunid=395&mode=viewGun An absolute beauty and ten times the price!

Enjoy them, boys,

Eug

Do you remember just a few years ago when I think it was Jaques bought up all the Parker reproduction guns and was selling them for $2000.00 Well I sat there and let that go by, (now look what there worth) but I can tell you one thing, it won't happen with this one. I am going to get on the list!! Big problem is, can I wait until April LOL Sure will be a long winter.

I agree completely with that.

But I can't agree with that.

Personally, I prefer the engraving of the CSM gun over that of the Dickson (the lines are another matter). The traditional fine scroll of the British so-called "Best" gun (a pseudonym for "most expensive") is rather boring.

There was much grumbling on some of the double gun forum's yesterday after the initial offering was only going to be available with a 14 1/4" LOP. Today they are offering a no cost option of 14 3/4" LOP. Sounds like C.S.M.C. is listening to their customers and potential customers.

The RBL is a beautiful gun. Rumor has it that it's basically a SKB design on the inside, but who cares? It's also been mentioned elsewhere that it will be offered in 16 and 28 gauges eventually. I really hope that this new Galazan offering, along with the Ruger GL, is a huge success. It would be terrific if TWO 100% American made SxS's could roll out at approximately the same time and do well. The Galazan RBL joins the Gold Label on my wish list.

I opted for the straight stock, double triggers, 3X :?: wood, and I called back today to specify the 14 3/4" LOP.

Mine was ordered within 2 hours of the announcement, but they couldn't tell me where I was on the list. It was sounding like a Chinese fire drill in the backgound, so I didn't push it. They said first guns will ship in April. Others have said that Tony has been very good at meeting production promises in the past. We'll see.

On another site, someone posted this response to his e-mail inquiry...

"Next week there will be an online video presentation that will show the manufacturing process and operation of the gun, including the self opening feature and much much more."

Connecticut Shotgun Mfg. Co.

Video will be available on both www.rblshotgun.com and www.connecticutshotgun.com

That might be interesting.

Mark,
I was on the phone with them this morning. It is a remarkable gun at a great price to my way of thinking. They do make a longer LOP now, at 14 3/4". I asked if they would do one with no engraving and they said no. I am not that nuts about the engraving but could live with it. I have an engraver friend who does much better engraving and he owes me some work.

Chic, Yeah, I changed mine to the longer LOP this morning. It's called the RBL, which I believe stands for the Round Action Box Lock. Once the initial "launch" offering is over, you might be able to buy one in the white. Other's are reporting with some certainty  that eventually a 12, 16, and 28 will be available.

Buying two guns in two months... this is not like me! :(^
