Has anyone replaced the recoil pad on a Remington 11-87 using one of the prefit pads? Are there some pads that fit better than others?

My 1995-vintage 11-87 Premier came with a "pad" like a chunk of old tire tread.

Replaced that (had to shorten the stock) with their new R-1 pad and didn't like that either- too soft, lots of face slap from the comb even with trap loads.

Finally got the Supercell that is supposed to be a pre-fit. It's not very close, there is about 1/8" too much pad at the bottom of the stock. But its recoil absorbtion is the best I've ever had- not too hard, not too soft; just absolutely perfect for me. Some day I'll have it fitted, but I'll take the comfort right now.

None of the "pre-fit " pads fit exactly.
Most of the time when a shooter changes a recoil pad they are doing so to correct the gun's length of pull (LOP)
This involves different recoil pad thicknesses and for the best result an evaluation by someone knowledgeable about basic gun fit.
I have experienced some very disappointed shooters that purchased Limbsaver pads only to have them excrete a "gummy" substance when stored in the gun safe that made the pad very sticky thereby ruining the pad.
Replacing the pad correctly will cost $60 to $110 why take a chance on just guessing?
I would suggest that you seek the guidance of a qualified coach, gunsmith or gun fitter knowledgeable in shotgun gun fitting prior to replacing your pad for your maximum satisfaction regarding this alteration.
When I evaluate a shooter for a stock alteration it is as much about Him (or Her) fitting the gun as it is about the gun fitting Him(or Her)
If the gun mount is not correct altering the gun will not solve the problem.
Hope This Helps;
Chuck

I have the same problem as mentioned above. The recoil pad on my newly acquired 2003 11-87 is like a piece of old tire. After shooting some trap with it, I'm not sure I want to shoot a case of shells through it on a goose hunt with the existing pad.
The shotgun seems to fit fine, just like my other Remington guns. Or at least I don't miss many shots. A new one inch pad would add about 1/4" to the LOP.
A prefit pad that doesn't fit very well is not really acceptable to me. Maybe I'll go the grind-to-fit route.
Thanks for everyone's input.
