Tooth picks and glue put a drop of glue in the hole. Then fill the hole with tooth picks screw the pad back on. 90% of the time perfect fit. :wink:

 

Buy a threaded insert for wood working. The insert has a course wood thread on the outside and machine thread on the inside. Screw the insert into the wood and it stays there.You then use a machine threaded screw to hold the pad on. This is much better if you thke the pad on and off a lot to change balence weights, change pads to thicker or thinner, or remove the stock for action maintenence.

 

Another way to do it is to take some JB Weld and get it down into the hole with a thin rod...toothpick would be okay but don't break it off in there. Cover the original screw with a good slick wax (Imperial Die Wax is what I use) and screw it in. The JB Weld sets and reforms the thread, and with the wax as a release agent, the screw backs out easily when the JB Weld has dried. I have done this on stocks and lots of other applications..works well on plastic, too.

I just jam the hole full of fine steel wool. Just as much as I can get into it, then reinsert the screw. This has worked for me and it is simple.

Another fool proof way but could be more expensive. Get Acra-gel from Brownells . Use a straw and blow it down the hole, let it cure and use an appropriate drill bit to drill the hole back out. This is the permanent fix.

 

I use a sliver of walnut dipped in wood glue. Tap it in and cut it off flush. Don't put too much in the hole or the stock may split.
