Just bought this for shooting skeet in the backyard. I’ve got my dad’s old 1100 from the late 60s and really like the 1100/11-87. Feel like I got lucky finding this locally.

I used to own one of those 1187 premier skeet models . A terrific skeet gun. Mine had a steel 26 inch target barrel. That looks like a later model with the gold trigger. I was wondering if it went to the light contour barrel or still has the steel barrel?

The heavy front is one of the complaints I had heard about the standard 11-87/1100. I don’t claim to be a shotgunner at all. I am a pistol shooter and rifle guy. Just recently started shooting backyard skeet as something to do. My wife seems to enjoy it so I was looking at something nice to buy that would last a long time. I bought an ultra cheap Turkish 20ga and, although it looked nice, was about like driving a Ford Festiva. Shot this 11-87 and it’s like a Mustang. Fast and solid.

As I mentioned earlier, I had the 1187 premier skeet with the standard barrel and it was barrel heavy. I also have a 1100 sporting with the light contour barrel which is lighter and feels much more like the older 1100s with the fixed chokes. The early 1187s made the standard barrel thicker to accommodate screw in chokes which made them heavier. The light contour is thinner except where the choke screws in.

You have what I consider to be the pinnacle of the model, as far as finish quality and overall handling & balance. Not too long after this one was made, it was steadily downhill for Remington all the way to their inglorious end.
