I recently purchased a remington 1100 from an old guy!
I want to know the year of manufacture of the gun!
At the left side of the barrel it writes " 6 EIJ"
.
I searched the web but i cannot find something to help me!
If anyone can help i would appreciate very much!
Thank you!

Can i ask what replacement stock and forend would fit to my shotgun?
I prefer synthetic for waterfowl use!

My guess is your gun is most likely a 1976 gun, but it could be earlier.
Optics Planet has really good prices of synthetic stocks. I just bought a Knoxx Blackhawk Standard black stock for mine. I also have a Remington MOBU stock on my 11-87. The nice thing about it is you can get a LOP kit for it.

If you want to date your gun for sure e-mail your serial # to Remington using the internal system on their web site under contact us.

The problem with dating yourself is that part manufacture dates and assembly dates can be different. What most people want to really know is the assembly date.

So how does a guy REALLY know the date of mfg? People change barrels like crazy.
Put all available info into a bowl of beer and add some tea leaves, wait a few minutes and take another drink or few of Highland Single Malt......then wait for it!
got it
October 1976 {hs#

Ok, ok....Remington did their best to make it complicated and was quite successful!
However, with that said there are some things that are pretty standard.
the Letter Prefixes used in the serial numbers on the receivers were only used certain years and in the instance above "M" was used between 1974 and 1977 and this checked against the barrel code he gave "6 EI J" conincides nicely with "6" being final inspector mark, "E" means October every time, "I" could be 1976 of 1988 and "J" indicating the assembly station in the plant when it was put together.
If the fit and finish all look the same I would safely say this is a complete gun form October of 1976, however is the fit and finish of the barrel and rest of the gun do not look precise the one must assume that it is a 1988 barrel on a 1974-1977 gun and further info will need to be obtained form Remington using the actual serial number....however, I strongly encourage you to read Virginia's tag line because like him in other instances, I have a mint condition 1969 1100 in 16 gauge that they say does not exist:)

They need a search engine like Winchester has to search the year of Mfg.
Oh that would be awesome......except there would be nothing wrong with the search engine, but if faulty data was being searched by the otherwise awesome search engine then its gonna spit out faulty data because its a awesome search engine. Pun intended {hs#

they do need something like you suggest from this point on in my opinion, but that does not seem to be real high on the list of things to do at this moment and has not been nor do I see it being so.

Good idea though.

The used fixed IC VR barrel I just bought for my 1100 project gun has no date code anywhere. The 3" mag plain barrel that was on the gun had no date code on the left side, and a single T all by itself on the right side and nothing else. Both have the normal nomenclature as far as choke and manufacturer location, shell length, etc.

I have often remarked than when the rollmarking guy (or gal) at Remington goes on break or is sick they just bypass that step. I think it may have some merit. I saw an 1100 once without a mark on the receiver but the serial number, but I suspect someone did that on purpose. It did have the little filigree on the bolt.

Update!
I contact remington and they told me that the shotgun is manufactured at october of 1976!
Info:the barrel is 28 in. and standard choke Modified!
I searched at google and found that remington manufactured the 1100 at 1976 with these specifications,28 in barrel and modified choke!
And the bore is 18,5.
So,can anyone tell me what synthetic stock and forend will fit exactly without gunsmithing modification?

If there is no prefix such as an 'L', it is definitely a 1963 (first year) gun. Don't tell Remington. They thought I was making up my 5 digit ones. If you have "matching numbers", it's really unique, because the only serial numbers I have ever seen are the one on the receiver.
