Im new here and just wanted see if anyone has ever seen a 1187 this bad? My duck hunting buddy shot this all last year and now his recoil spring is done, so I’m taking it apart form him to fix and nut is frozen with rust and have it soaking in citric acid over night hopefully it will break free once rust is gone

Remember, no good deed goes unpunished.
I'd hand it back as soon as possible.

Your hunting buddy is a moron when it comes to guns.

I have a hunting buddy that doesn't do any maintenance either, and once a year goes through something similar that is why I am saying "when it comes to guns" bit.

Don't do ONE ounce of extra work for him. Just get it up and running.
I agree his idea of cleaning his shotgun is swab barrel and spray oil on it lol i tear mine down every other day I hunt but I shoot a A5

I have seen both hex head nuts and that screwdriver type. The screwdriver type needs a special tip shape and to be supported. Or bad things can happen. Try to find a Hex replacement...make it easier for next August's cleaning.

But still , heat is your friend with rusted connects, heat and cold and penetrating oil and leverage and well fitted tools.

Can someone post a pic or link for the proper tool for that retaining nut? I would have to search for the one I made to fit, and can't right now.
