I have a Remington Model 1889 Shotgun and have not been able to determine what grade it is and it's serial number. I have looked on the underside of the barrel and there is no number but only a unidentifiable marking. I also have tried to disassemble the shotgun and with the forearm piece off the other two pieces will not detach like I've seen others being able to do. What I believe to be the serial number found on the forearm and can see on the other two pieces of the gun is the number 19889 but have not seen other serial numbers like it or been able to look it up. Any help is appreciated.

What company name is on the gun? 19889 is not a Remington Arms Co. Model 1889 serial number. 19889 would be an E. Remington & Sons Model 1885.

Normally the serial number for a Model 1889 is on the right watertable, and the Quality number is also on the right watertable, between the serial number and the breech face.

The Quality No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 are essentially the same unengraved guns differentiated only by their barrel material -- No. 1 Decarbonized Steel, No. 2 Fine Twist, No. 3 Damascus.

The No. 4, 5, 6 and 7 were all special order guns with increasingly finer Damascus barrels, increasingly more/better engraving and increasingly finer imported walnut with increasingly finer checkering in more elaborate patterns.
