What is the velocity and load weight? Nitros run a wide range!

Sir, you must be a glutton for punishment. Way overkill for the Clay target games.

However if you have the bound too's and the can't help it's, you have little choice in powders. Alliants Unique or Herco, and Hodgdons Universal is what you have available.

Backing down to about 1255 FPS gets you a far better variety of available powders and much more available data. Included in those would be Hodgdon's Universal and Alliants Green dot. This is still a pretty stiff load, but more shooter friendly than the 1300+ FPS of the other loads.

And If I am not mistaken, there really is no warranty that those loads will assemble well or easily.

For years now, after trying a "keg of everything," there is only one powder I use as my 12 ga. clays powder: Green Dot.

Very easy to work with, very versatile, and far cleaner than ever before. Very, very forgiving, flexible, and consistent.

Green Dot is the very best 12 ga. powder there is for 1-1/8 oz. loads, as far as I'm concerned for all these reasons.

In my opinion.

From Alliant's website:

Hull: Remington Nitro/STS/Gun Club/Sport Load

Shot Wt.: 1 1/8
Velocity: 1,310
Primer: Rem. 209P
Powder: Unique
Grains: 24.5
Wad: Rem. RXP12
psi: 9,700

This load duplicates the factory components except for the powder and shot. Remington uses a hard (magnum) shot in this load and to duplicate the factory patterns so should you.

I have loaded this many times, it fits the hull and shoots well. Vigorous on the shoulder, but not offensive. Perfect functioning in my Beretta 391, and not too dirty over a hundred rounds or so.

I load Unique with the MEC bushings, but mostly use my Lyman powder measure to get exactly the charge I want. Unique is coarse but meters well enough for this application.

Good shooting...

thanx crberus and everybody else. i shoot 1 oz. of 9's over 17 gr of promo for skeet and the nitros were only a tad more exuberant, i thought. some of my right on hits were better than pepper shakers. target was there and then it wasn't, just a faint shadow. i know it's prolly overkill but so's stomping the accelator on your muscle car. fun tho.

Yeah, but freshly acquired flinches are not fun, that frequently is a free accessory that comes along with a batch of the nitros
