Remington says a new 870 barrel will fit the 20ga 1100 LT

I just picked up a 20ga Remington 1100 LT in full synthetic with a rifled barrel for my son. I want to add a 26" modified or rem choke barrel for him, but they are hard to come by, so I reached out to Remington and they told me that a new 870 barrel would work on it. This doesn't sound likely to me as the 1100 has a completely different barrel design and gas porting as far as I know. I've been trying to research this, and all I see is confirmation that this won't work. Any thoughts? The 1100 I got is the 20ga full synthetic, rifle sight, rifled barrel model, produced in 1997 with K serial ending, current barrel is full tang. Thanks for any input!

Go to Midwest Gun Works, navigate to the Remington 870 Barrel, and get on the notification list. They will notify when available. They notified me recently, and within a minute after receiving their email, I made the order. They, MGW, said that they had not seen these Remington barrels in years. The barrel quality is excellent, comes with one choke tube and a wrench.

"I just bought a new REM-Arms 870 28” barrel from Midwest Gun Works for $262."

Glad you go it. For the purposes of this thread could you tell us if the 870 barrel has a gas port? I am strongly guessing no because I do not see where the gasses would go in a pump.

Maybe someone at Remington said that a 870 barrel could be modified to work on a 1100?

Without even seeing it, I can say it doesn't. Apart from the single shot 870 Competition (an even more esoteric application), the only reason you'd want a gas port in an 870 barrel would be to use it in an 878 or 58, both of which shared barrel extension and ejector designs with the 870.

The 1100 family has an entirely different barrel extension and ejector design. Whoever answered the phone and said 870 and 1100 barrels interchange was simply speaking outside the area of their expertise.

I would not trust that information that a new 870 barrel with fit, as the semi-auto 1100 and 1187 barrels are totally different. The barrel lug on the 870 is narrower, where the semi-auto barrels are wider and have 2 gas ports on the underside of the barrel lug to allow gas to get into the gas seal system and cycle the action. The 870 barrel has no gas ports. The barrels fit into the receiver differently as well, as the 870 has an ejector that is attached/fastened to the receiver that not only ejectors the shells, but supports the barrel so it doesn't rotate inside the receiver. The semi-auto 1100 and 1187 have a built in ejector bump on the left side of the barrel that pushes the shells out as the action cycles rearward.
