I own an Ithaca Model 51 and need to purchase a new receiver buffer for it; Numrich doesn't have any in stock, curious if you might have a suggestion where I could look?

Thank you in advance for the assist.

I've just discovered that an outfit called Skal-Tec Ballistics (www.skaltec.com) is offering a newly made slide for the Ithaca Model 51. It features rails made of CNC machined 4100 steel. They believe their assembly addresses some of the weaknesses found in the original Ithaca made slides. They also have replacement recoil springs and buffers for the Model 51.

Ooooo, interesting...

Unfortunately, I've still not managed to get the stock off of my M51 and, thus, can't replace one of the buffers. If I ever *do* manage to get it apart, I'll certainly bear these people in mind.

Thanks for the info.

Regards,

Mark.

Are you using a socket. Can't do it on most with a screw driver.

A good point but one that I'd already learnt with my M37s.

Thanks for the heads-up, anyway.

Regards,

Mark.

P.S. Due to a bit of arm and shoulder trouble, I've temporarily given up shooting. (I still attend club meets just for the heckling, though.) As a result, I've not checked the stock nut on the M51 to see if things are any better. I must do that, soon...

That is a pretty good price, $45 for both buffers and the recoil spring. Wonder what Les at Diamondgunsmithing charges for the those parts and installation?
Les' price in $55.95 which includes priority US mail shipping. You install.
Anyone who has followed Model-51 posts has read, not only about the slide assembly weakness, but about the short-comings of the factory recoil springs. Dig up old posts about the length of the springs contributing to problems. Is this new company using the correct length? I'd stick to recoil springs from Les.

I know this is an old post but I sent my son's Model 51 to Les with a broken slide. The buffers were replaced as well as Les' recoil spring and the slides welded. The entire job was $200 plus dollars. After shooting the shotgun (hunting only) for two years the welded slide broke again. So seems the new buffers and spring didn't "fix" the problem or the weld was poorly done. I wish I could find a new slide somewhere. My Model 51, which was purchased back in the 1970s (along with my son's) is still going strong with all original parts.
