I wanted a stock with conventional style but shorter. I'm not a fan of pistol grip stocks as they require a tool to take it off to remove the trigger group for field stripping. Not good.
So... short "standard" stock it is. Hogue 12" lop stock. I LOVE this stock. The ergo's are amazing! The Hogue is not just a shortened stock. It has a reconfigured grip area which has a steeper down slope and closer hand-to-trigger configuration. The overmolding is fantastic and feels secure in the hand. The lop is VERY short (making a 6 shot M88/500/590 VERY compact) and is easily worked with thumb OUTSIDE, not wrapped over, reciever (very important). Standard lop is almost 15" with this model (rediculous), so 12" is welcome. LOVE it!
Cons: Stock is ergonomically superior, but fitting sucks. There was flashing everywhere, stock wiggles side to side a tad (yes, it's overly tight to almost stripping the aluminum reciever threads) due to poor tolerances. The buttpad is junk and fits only by screws (unlike limbsaver which has molding to keep it (side to side) fitted to stock). There is a gap with mine, which I coverd with black electical tape. Not too confidence inspiring for a stock which retails for $55+. Fitting should be MUCH better. Hogue... get your act together. As this is only a HD shotgun, I'm willing to live with a bit a "slop" in the stock.
All in all... I love this stock ande would reccomend it to anyone wiht a M88'500/590, so long as you're willing to sacrafice the awesome fit of the factory stock for a slightly wiggly stock with superiour ergonomics. It's kind of a shame.. it's a far superiour stock plagued with a poor fitment and garbage buttpad. YMMV, but this is jut my review.

Thanks Nerostarr!
Yes, the stock is installed correctly (even a bit beyond. I even used loctite blue for the few threads it affords). I used my stock bolt, ditched the factory washer in favor of the Hogue washer, re used my factory split washer (lock washer). The play is due to the "reciever insert" not fitting tight enough. Don't get me wrong... it fits... but if you twist on the stock, it shifts a tad from side to side (limited by the trigger group tang). Not a huge deal, but the factory stock did not move ANY. Also, as far as the buttpad... yes, it's intalled correctly as well. That item is a flat plated pad which contacts stock at edge only, uses plastic washers to space it correctly with the inset screw holes. This is an inferior design. Limbsaver uses a molded base which has "tangs" that insert into stock (Hogue does not) which limit side to side movement and provides a superior fit. I've used the stock, Limbsaver, and Hogue, so I know. Also the Hogue is not as supple as a limbsaver. It's not bad (and WAY better than that hard rubber junk on the factory stock), but not nearly as good as a limbsaver. The Hogue is a fantastic stock (which I'm staying with), but it's not without fault. With a few design upgrades... I think it would be flawless.

Thanks guys! Yeah, I've heard nothing but positives about the Hogue. I'm sure I just got a slightly out of mold one (that's what I get for using amazon, I guess! haha). I do LOVE the way it fits and feels. I was worried it would be too short.. but it seems more adaptable that way. I do need to retrain myself to shoot squared up. Years of bladed shooting is going to be hard to overcome without serious thought when mounting. Oh well... just another excuse to shoot some more :D
