Stainless steel?

I've never seen one in stainless, and I own the identical gun, but blued and with 26" barrels.

Mine was purchased in the early 1970s. It's a decent gun, especially for its retro looks, although very heavy and pretty impractical for field use (because of its external levers).

I think the value of mine was somewhere around $150 to $200 last time I checked; I'm not sure what one in stainless and with 19" barrels would bring. It might command some sort of premium among the Cowboy Action shooting fraternity.

Did stainless steel exist in 1927? Did Rossi exist in 1927? Did the NYC police department ever arm its force with coach guns?

Dude, I think some one is laying a whopper on you.

When I bought my Rossi double in, I believe, 1972, it was a new model novelty item--a repro of the old-style sawn-off sidearms that 19th century coach drivers used to protect their cargo.

You should check with a blue book of gun values, which would indicate the period of manufacture for your model. Sure sounds to me like someone's trying to pass off a cheap repro as a genuine antique.

Stainless was invented in 1913. frist Rossi stainless in 1914.
gun given to me as a gift by a retired Marine capitain. He was given the gun 30 years ago by it's original owner(so they say)
the original owner said he was issued it as a beat cop in the late 20's.

the gun is in perfect condition, and I have all the numbers.

Greetings!

Rossi started making shotguns (break-open, single-shot ones) circa 1922 (they started business in 1899, making agriculture implements and domestic utensils), along with shotshells and primers.

I'll have to check in a book I have on Rossi, but I believe production of their SxS shotguns (both external and internal hammer) began sometime after WWII and their first commercial use of S/S in firearms was in the late 1970's.

Though I may be copletely wrong, a Rossi SxS shotgun in S/S, made in the 1920's sounds - to me - very improbable.

I'll check the aforementioned book for info and will post whatever it is that I can find.

Cheers!

Thanks Guys,

Due to all the input, I dug into the history a little more. I've talked to the grandson of the original owner. He says the gun is a copy of the one his grandfather carried as a cop in the late 20's. It was purchased by his father as a novelity to be hung on the wall. That's why it was never shot. He was supprised it even worked.(which it does, took a 80lb. sow over the weekend) Turns out the NYC Police Dept, does now and most likely did then issue a Parker Coach Gun. So this one is surely
a copy cause NOBODY gives away A 27' Parker for free.

I know this is such an old post, but I am nearing desperation I cant find anything on these stainless guns. I picked up this stainless rossi coach gun the other day, it is a 12 ga., has 19" bbls, does not have "imported by ......" anywhere on it. The only marks it has is the usual "Amadeo Rossi S.A., SAO Leopoldo R.S. Made in Brazil" on the barrel, and No. RG. T50035 under the barrel on the frame on one side and 28" 614 (serial number??) on the other side. 614 is matcing on all parts of the gun. Barrels are full and modified. I will post up more pics tomorrow when I get new batteries for the camera
