I have the opportunity to buy this Savage Fox BSE 20 gauge, 26" barrel, Single trigger, vent rib, beavertail forearm, SxS shotgun that the owner says it is from the early 70's. He says it is in mint condition, maybe not been shot. What is this gun worth?

I sold one in the same condition about nine months ago 12 ga for $550 on auction. That 20 would probably go for $600 or more. The market is pretty tight right now though.

That looks to be a very nice example. In my area it would command in the $500-$600 range. However, as Patriot said, the market is rather soft right now on these guns. part of it is the economy and part of it is due to the fact that these guns are not steel shot compatable and upland hunting seems to be headed in that direction.

Disappointed!!! Met this guy today to view this shotgun prepared to buy it. It was not quite as nice as he though it was. There was some pitting inside the right bore, maybe both, but worse was the way the vent rib fit. Not sure it it took a lick sometime or if it was just poor fitting from the factory, but he back end of the vent rib, where it is screwed down, did not fit flush, it leaned to the left. It was about a foot down the barrel before the rib flattened out. Even though it was otherwise nice, I decided to pass on this one. He started at $800 and was down to $600. I didn't make him a lower offer....didn't want to upset him any further.
