I'd be more worried if it was closer to the chamber. As will be mentioned, a trip to a gunsmith is a good idea.

Ported barrels would seem to be more likely to have issues than that.

 

Send it to Dean Harris at Skeets Gun Shop in Oklahoma. He’s done probably 5 dent removals for me. He is the master at it. It’s more than just raising a dent. Many times it requires the proper honing to be done along with it.

 

Would agree. He has done several for me. Anyone talked to him lately? Every time I call, I get something to answer, but it's background noise like he is working on something, but he doesn't answer.

 

2nd Skeets and quick turn time.

 

Just talked to him last week. He was opening the chokes on a gun for me. He is super busy. Turn around time for my work was almost at two months from my shipping to getting them back.

 

You have options:

 

I just had Mike Orlen, a member here, remove two dents from an Ithaca Crass. Dents removed, barrels polished, and back in my shop in 7 days. Mike's turnaround time for barrel work is remarkable and his work is trusted by some of the best double gun smiths I know.

 

To answer your question, the dent is not a safety issue.

If you have payed to have 5 dents removed from your shotgun barrels you might consider the purchase of the Hosford Dent removal tool. I have one and they work great! IMO any sportsman with a fine Classic gun collection should invest in the tool, especially if the sportsman does a lot of Grouse & Woodcock hunting.
