I will be traveling to Greenville, SC in June for my daughters USYSA regionals soccer games. A couple of us are interested in finding a public clays course near Greenville. Can anyone recommend a sporting clays course in that area? So far all the ones I have found on-line are private or only open to the public for tournaments. Any help is appreciated.

smhoer,

In South Carolina we have some fine clubs to visit. That part of the state is not the sporting clays epicenter, however, so you may have to travel a few miles.

In my opinion, the Clinton House would be a good one to visit. They are the most active club in that quadrant of the state and are friendly people. They are also quite close to the interstate and easily accessible. Here is their website: http://www.clintonhouse.com/

Another resource is the S.C. Sporting Clays Association: http://ww2.sc-sportingclays.com/index.php

Hope this helps and Good Shooting!

I visited several very nice South Carolina SC clubs when I was traveling on business in Greenville, but one that was quite close to Greenville and had a very interesting Sporting clays course was across the Savannah River in NE GA.
Elbert County Gun Club in Elberton, GA - not far from the SC/GA state line, is set in an abandoned granite quarry which gives some terrain you won't see very often. Just like all the other places I visited on my trip, the people running the place, as well as everyone else, were very warm, welcoming and helpful. Well worth a short trip to shoot it, but give them a call since I believe you might be only be able to go there on Saturdays. Their website has some pictures of some of the stations.

Scott:

PM me your contact info and maybe we can get out. I moved back to Greenville and have now shot at a few of the local places.

Belton GC and The Clinton House Plantation are both really nice. As is the Spartanburg gun club. I just shot in a tournament there 2 weeks ago and it was well run and had great targets that day.

There is a very nice club just northwest of Greenville and near me (I live on the north side of Greenville) that I haven't been able to shoot yet, called Smoke Rise. It's in NC. Non-members can shoot in certain days but at fairly higher prices. It looks very nice though.

You can actually drive your truck around the SC course at Belton instead of renting a cart. Never done that before, but it was kind of cool.

We have a new office in Raleigh and I'm spending a fair amount of time there now so maybe I'll have to get some good info from you on clubs up your way. I should be eating tomorrow night at the Angus Barn there!

There's also a few nice ones as mentioned by others, around Charlotte. I haven't shot any of those yet. Also I haven't shot at the Biltmore yet but that's only about 49 minutes north of me in Ashville.

I will say that the people I have shot with here, and the folks who run these clubs in this area (as well as a few new friends I've shot with); are some of the nicest folks I've ever shot met.

There is a cool little restaurant in Belton, SC called "Grits and Groceries" by the way. Greenville has some great restaurants. We like Soby's a lot downtown.

I can answer that one for you. Dependent which side of town your office is on will determine your travel time:

Deep River
Kidds
Drake Landing
Rose Hill Plantation

My top two would be Rose Hill and Kidd's. Both have excellent targets and great people. Drake Landing is not far behind nor is Deep River. From downtown Raleigh we are truly blessed to have four excellent clay courses. If you don't mind an 1:45 drive down east we also have Hunter's Pointe or about 1:30 drive down into the Sandhills for Dewitt's.

I can't help you with any clubs west of Raleigh back towards Greensboro and Charlotte, sorry.

I live in the upstate of SC. I would recommend The Clinton House, you can drive your car or truck around the course. The Belton Gun Club, you can also drive around the course. I have shot all the clubs mentioned above and they are all good places to shoot. Elberton is the most unique. One exception to this list. I live 3 miles from River Bend Sportmans Lodge. Don't waste your time going there. The traps may or may not work, they never change the targets and they charge .65 per target.
There is to many good venues to shoot at around Greenville/Spartanburg that you would be much
Happier.

Good Shooting,
DC
