Summit Limited or Invictus

I'm looking to add a 12 ga gun to the case for sporting clays . I'm considering a used Invictus I with a 30 inch barrel at about 5k lightly used , or a used sporting limited 32 inch barrel lightly used for about 3k . The factory stock dimensions for both are close to ideal based fittings I've had for other guns .
Has anyone shot both and could give me an impression. I'm leaning toward the limited because of the 32 inch barrels but am attracted to the perceived quality of the Invictus.
Will fund this by selling my Guerini 30 Ascent as I decided to move completely to a flatter rib configuration.
Love to hear opinions on these two guns .

The process is something that they only do in Italy. If you have a problem, they will cover it under warrantee, but they told my friends (both of them) that their guns would have to go back to Italy and it could take up to two years to get them back.

I would call Andrew at CG and see what the latest is. My understanding is that the situation has been fixed on more recent ones, so if you are considering a used one, I would check out the serial number before committing. I did like the Limit I had, but wanted to LIMIT my disappointment if mine turned out to be one of the problematic ones.

By referring to the perceived quality of the Invictus, do you mean actual quality or bragging points? I ask because although the Invictus has a couple of nifty replaceable bits, to my mind it's all smoke and mirrors performance and quality wise and IMO more a way of justifying a much higher purchase price. I see

I've tried a number of Invictuses of all grades back to back with my Challenger and neither I nor the owners could detect any meaningful difference in the fit, handling, balance, triggers or shooting qualities between them. If you can shoot a Summit you can shoot an Invictus equally well and vice versa. About 95% or thereabouts of the Invictus, and 100% of the bits that apply to actual shooting, are carried over unchanged from the standard range. Even the weight is about the same, despite what you might have heard and I can see nothing about the Invictus that signals a step up in quality.

I now know at least half a dozen people who've switched from one or other of the 4 makes of high end sporters to one of the Invictus models but, excluding sponsored shooters, I can't think of anyone who's "upgraded" from a standard CG to an Invictus.

Having shot maybe 20 different CGs across the spectrum of models and variations, my personal view is that 32" barrels suit them much better than 30s.

Trickster, thanks for the input. Have been thinking of moving up to an Invictus from the Challenger. Have so far resisted the temptation because of the price differential and bang for the buck. The Challenger is tight and not showing wear or loosening. It'll take a couple of more years of heavy shooting before that gun will get wobbly and need a rebuild.

I have a Magnus Sporting 30" and an Invictus III Ascent 32". They are worlds apart. The Invictus is noticeably heavier and swings slower. The Magnis which has the Summit action, swings much faster and is lighter.

I shoot Trap, 5'7" 150 lbs and loved the Magnus Sporting, but the sporting stock hit me in the face too much and after 250-300 rounds, my cheek was sore. Probably should have just changed the stock as I was shooting pretty well.

Went to the Invictus, loved the feel of it, but shot like crap for several months and after about 5,000 rounds and now I'm back as good as the Magnus and progressing again.

Overall I'm happy with both and love the feel and heft of the Invictus, but I doubt I'll ever wear out the Magnus. They are both great shotguns, but the Invictus is beefier with parts that are replaceable. I shoot about 1,000 rounds a month so even after 10 years that's only 120,000 rounds. Most likely any decent shotgun will last that.

Fired an Invictus back to back with the Citori CX I had. Loved the Invictus. It was properly balanced and a dream. Shortly after I traded in the CX for a Summit Limited. Haven’t shot this back to back with the Invictus, but no complaints. My Summit isn’t as balanced though, but the owner of the Invictus balanced it perfectly at the hinge pin himself.

The differences in handling between the Summit and the Invictus are small, but I prefer the Invictus. I like 32” barrels and I would look for a used 32” Invictus. I considered a new Invictus but just couldn’t justify the price.
