Team Verona/Chicago outings planned for May 2004:

1-May: Ham & SoSnow shot trap up at CCKC in Bristol, WI.

2-May: Ham & SoSnow will be back up there - hope to see O/U Mike there as well.

8-May: I've never shot SC before - what about a trip to that SC course in SE Wisc that snow was talking about?

We need to get "in-shape" if we ever want to challenge the OHIO guys. I'd also like to setup something with the St. Lousy and So. IL guys -- maybe an outing in central IL near Peoria? We can use this: http://www.shotgunsports.com/cillinoi.htm as a reference to find a place. I see a couple close to Peoria just glancing at the list.

Ham,

The way I read your post, it sounds like you are coming to the Ohio Open??!!

That would be great. Like I said in one of the other posts, I am willing to travel and shoot also, I just need time to get off work or line up a sitter, depending on the weekend.

Hose - I don't think I'll make the first OHIO open, but Team Verona/Chicago will eventually need to challenge you OHIO boys to a little shooting game. You guys just shoot SC, right? Not much SC action in our neck of the woods.... In fact, CCKC only offers trap and skeet, so it wouldn't be fair to go head-2-head in SC.

I'm hoping to get Mac and the St. Lousy guys to meet up near Peoria for a central IL shoot. Maybe in Tremont just outside of Peoria....

I shot today with O/U Mike and SoSnow -- 3 Veronas in one squad. Snow was a force to be reckoned with. I'll let him tell us how well he did - but whatever he says, you'll just have to believe him.... he was THAT good! The funny thing was I shot with him on Saturday when he had his 870 and he shot about 8-10 birds per round lower. :) Hmm..... Of course, I shot like CRAP both days this weekend and it was a waste of time and money, other than getting to meet these guys. Oh well, there's always next weekend! :p

And here's a picture of Team Verona / Chicago:

Thanks for the good word Ham...
I took my new 505Sc for a test ride today. I shot 5 rounds of Trap 23,22,21,20,22. I must say I was extremely happy. The gun is like a dream. I have been shooting mu 870 since I was 12. My 870 has 26in brl and no screw in chokes. The Verona is everything that I expected and more! :D I would also like to thank evryone on this site for all the good information. I dont know if I would have taken the Verona plunge without this site.
The only negative about the Verona vs my 870 is the extra cleaning, but if I keep scoring well, I won't mind. Ham and O/U Mike, I look forward to shooting some more with you guys and trying our hand at some sporting clays soon... 8)

Ham, I shoot all 3. My best game is trap, followed by skeet and then sporting clays. My sporting clays scores have been up and down because I am trying to change my shooting style. Not sure what is going to work. I have my Verona set up that I can shoot all 3 but I really like trap. I am willing to shoot any of the 3 at any time. It's all fun. I have never traveled to IL so I'd be willing to make a little road trip out there this summer to shoot with you guys. I am picking up a new 28 gauge tomorrow that I will be using for skeet and probably a good deal of my sporting clays. I love a sub-gauge challenge.

Steve & Mitch,

It was great meeting you two and shooting with you today. My first box with the new Verona, my first shotgun, was a 3/25. My second was a 6/25. Sorry I had to leave, but I'm glad I started the thread about "Greater Chicago Area Verona Owners.".The weather was better than we thought it would be. I joined the club, and I will be back there a lot. Bring on Ohio and Mizzou!

Glad you guys had fun and are getting in some practice...your going to need it :p

If you want to head to the "Show Me State" and shoot some regular trap and skeet we can accomodate you on that at St.Louis Trap & Skeet.....I'm still looking for another SC course a little closer than Rend Lake...I'm told there are a couple of nice ones within an hours drive on this side of the river...but if I can';t locate any Rend will do just fine...for a friendly Sporting session with you all.

I'll have to see just how many Missouri shooters would be interested in a road trip this Summer sometime...but that's for another thread..

Ham,

It's Mother's Day, and if I get up there it won't be until mid-afternoon. BTW, went to the Cubs game today and watched them lose a very winnable game 4-3. Maddux pitched OK, but the only scoring by the Cubs was on 3 solo shots, though all 3 left the ballpark. Sammy was 1 for 4 with 3 SO's, twice on called 3rd strikes. I'm tired of all of them just trying to hit HR's. CP needs to be more patient.

Mike - my msg was from friday, asking about saturday. I too was busy on sunday..... shot with snow on saturday though, as well as 3 other guys I knew so we had a full 5-man squad. Only 2 veronas on the squad though.... but 2 of the guys are considering them. :) One of them pretty seriously I think.

So hopefully we can meet up again this coming weekend....

Oh yeah, speaking of the cubs....... i listenend to the first part of that game saturday and thought, wow, the cubs will be hitting well all day....but suddenly they cooled off and lost the game. Doesn't help when u let this opposing pitcher hit a 2run homer.

You're right about patterson. when he came up with the bases laoded and 2 outs in the 13th inning yesterday I was sure he would choke again.... but he proved me wrong. :)

Snow shot very well for the 2nd weekend in a row. I'm in the middle of a slump... well, a major slump. However I feel like i'm coming out of it. I've crawled back to the high teens in scores and hopefully will be back into the 20's soon.

I think my Verona knew I was thinking of getting another gun and its feelings were hurt. Now that i've reassured it that he's not being replaced (just supplemented) I think things will turn around! :)

I brought a buddy from work along and he said he'd actually been looking at the Veronas so I let him shoot my LX503 and he was impressed. He was actually considering buying my old 870 pump, but after he shot my Verona I think I lost the sale as he's seriously considering a 503 or a 505 now! Oh well, one more member for Team Verona/Chicago!

Missed you guys yesterday when I was up at Bristol. Shot a round of trap, but the RO told me the ammo I was using, the same I was using 2 weeks ago, was too high of velocity. So I had to buy shells at the range for $6. Fortunately, I had stopped at Bass Pro to buy some skeet ammo, so I went and shot 2 rounds of skeet. Got a white bird on my first round, so the next round was a freebee. I still am having trouble keeping my swing going. It was a beautiful day to shoot though. Wish I had more time than I did.

Mike - yeah sorry I wasn't able to get up to Bristol on Saturday. I'm in the middle of finishing my basement and i spent all day saturday and sunday hanging drywall. :)

I ordered some new Trulocks and they should come in this week so that will give me a good reason to head up this coming Saturday. You or Snow going to be up there?

go cubs...
