I'm going to purchase my first shotgun soon. It will be a 500 12 gauge combo with the 28 and 18.5 inch barrels.

My only question is what does Crown Grade give you? Is it worth the small amount of money?

My crown grade has no engraving,( but does feature a forearm that's apparently intended to double as a rattlin bag during the fall rut). But seriously, working in sporting at wallyworld, some of the mossy 500 boxes are marked crown grade, & some aren't. I've taken them out & compared them & can't see a bit of difference. Same wood & finish. Same gold trigger. same checkering. My crown/gr is a 20ga. For some reason the forearms of the 20s rattle far worse than the 12s. It has gotten to be the first thing I check when a new 20 comes in. Anyone else noticed this?

Crown grade is a designation that allows for the exportation/importation into the countries of Great Britain, historically and still today the proofing house in London checks the quality of a weapon before allowing its ownership in the countries of GB mossberg is a major brand that has recently been allowed to be imported so crown grade means its built to specifications that allow for ownership in Great Britain, it has nothing to do with fit or finish but refers to the fact it meets requirements for sale in England and other GB Countries
