Whole lot shorter barrel for Gold Hunter?

I have a 12ga Gold Hunter with a VR 30"bbl that I used to use for goose hunting. My sporting interests have changed and I am now interested in using this gun for turkey hunting from a ground blind.

The problem is that the bbl is WAY too long for the ground blind - 18 to 20" would be about perfect. I know that replacement barrels in the 18-20" range are not available, so I'm interested in sending the bbl to Briley for shortening and threading for a turkey choke.

Q: has anybody done this and will the gun still function reliably with the shorter bbl?

Thank you.

Not sure what the cost would be to have briley or someone else shorten your current barrel but have you looked into just buying a shorter barrel? I have a gold deer hunter model that I wanted to use for other purposes and bought a 24 inch barrel for it. I have seen on various auction sites etc individual barrels for sale. Might want to look into that before you have yours cut down.

I have a spare vr 28 in barrel for a gold hunter, 3 in chamber. If you have any interest, I'd sell it and you could cut it down, leaving the 30 in intact. Heck, I'd even trade for the 30 in barrel, if it was a 3 in. That said, Mike Orlen does a great job.

The Browning GH 12ga. barrel with Invector Plus chokes cannot be shortened and modified to reinstall the chokes.

Looks like it goes into the back of the safe and I buy a short barrelled gun that will take standard turkey chokes.
Bruce,

I believe you, but were you given a reason why? I am curious!
