I shot a Vintage 50 target Lewis shoot today. I used a 1897 Black Diamond Trap gun, It was a lot of fun, and old school full choke from 16 yards. It was a 3 man squad and I could see the heat coming off the gun in the second round. My fingers got a little hot with that small forend. I shot a 45, missed a straight away from station 3. I was pleased with that, but it could have been better. I can see what the vent rib is so important. It makes you appreciate what the guys had to deal with on the "old days".

45 out of 50 isn't too bad. As for the barrel heat, think about what it was like when they were using black powder, I've been told nothing heats a barrel up faster than black powder.

When I first got my SxS I learned real quick that shooting on a 3 man squad at Skeet means you either wear gloves or you get burned.

I shoot trap with a very informal group of old farts on Friday mornings. One regular shooter brought his wife this past Friday. She shoots of all things a nice old Winchester model 97 made back in the late 20's. This lady can shoot , and was in the high teens to low 20's using her hubby's reloads, LOL ! 🙂
