What the going price for the winchester model 50. Gun appears to be in about 90%. Bbl and action are great. I didn't get a serial number since my friend was rushing me. Asking price was $195, should I jump on it?

Also there was this o/u that I really just saw from over the counter. I asked the person about it and all they could tell me is that it was made in Turkey and that there was a golden engraved goose on the side. Any ID would be helpful.

It was a small gunshop that was in a gas station up where I used to live.

Hello mjm: that would be a good deal on the Md 50 as long as it's not the Featherweight!! They have the aluminum receiver that you can beat to death using the standard 1 1/4 oz lead loads. Really a good quail or dove gun using light loads. You can tell the early Featherweights, they have an "A" at the end of the serial number. The later ones actually had the word "Featherweight" below the serial number, better ask!! Regards Dave

TexasTon - My dad purchased one in 1953, 30" full choke. My god, he was deadly with that gun on winged-birds shooting Super X 7 1/2's @ 1 1/4 oz. My dad has moved on and the gun is still in the case as he left it - probably not handled or fired for about 30 yrs.

Is this gun worth me restoring it? By that I mean, Briley chokes, stock refinishing, lengthen & polish the forcing cones and porting, etc?????

4th, if you want to restore it to like new condition, just for ole Dads sake, you could do that. But it won't break or take any more birds than it did when he was shooting it.

I wouldn't suggest any barrel mods on any gun unless it had a known problem, but with the 50's floating chamber, I wouldn't touch it. And if you want to shoot trap with the gun, I wouldn't touch that barrel, period. Send me a PM is you are interested in barrel for 50's, I can send you a link to some pretty reasonable, as reasonable as any barrel work.

It likely needs some things attended to, and hopefully it was put up oiled and with the barrel/chamber protected as well.

The timing needs checking on it before the rigors of alot of targets, if it's had a ton of 36 gram shells thru it most likely needs adjusting, and a spring change, other than that spend the money on bullets, not hardware.
