Hey guys!

Every year we do a family hunt where we travel for wild birds. I talked to many people on the forums for recommendations and things to look for and we settled on Wisconsin for grouse. We packed up last night and started the 20 hour drive from New Jersey. Cannot wait for another year of amazing hunting. Will post photos when the trip is over. Let’s see how these Springer Spaniels do grouse hunting since apparently flushing dogs don’t do well grouse hunting! (Joke about the post from earlier)

There are no grouse in Wisconsin. Go to Minnesota. Shhhh!!!!
Lies! LOL. Just got home a couple of hours ago from 2 weeks in the tip of the Mn. Arrowhead grouse hunting. Was in Sunset Country of Canada prior to that for a week.

Stopped at a rest area to let the dog out on the way back and a guy had a SUV with RGS stickers along with grouse and woodcock silhouette stickers on the rear windows. So I asked him if he had any luck. Said he was on his way home from the National Grouse and Woodcock Hunt (NGWH) in Grand Rapids Monday-Thursday as a guide for the donors, although he hated to use the word guide. Said it was the lowest bird numbers in the 40 years they have been keeping records.

In addition to lower numbers from heavy Spring rains same problem bird hunters are having across the North and into Wi. it has been dryer than a popcorn fart. lousy scenting conditions for the dogs and crunchy walking for everyone. Even without my hearing aids in I could hear birds running ~50 yards away. We could use some rain in the North but not all at once please....

Where are the grouse pictures? I feel so let down.
Haven't shot a Wi. grouse yet this year and probably won't. How about a 16 ga. with a Mn. grouse?

Last grouse in Mn. the rest were seen swimming for Wisconsin this Spring when the rains came. Story has it they even have webbed feet now.

It was tough sledding this year but first day largest bull moose I've seen in quite a few years crossed in front of me

Yes you can hunt them with flushers. Dovewood’s Sabre and I have been in Price County WI since last Monday, killed our first one Friday after 7-8 flushes. Tip: crop was full of red mountain ash berries.
Your timing is good as last week was hot and dry, today’s rain and cooling off should make coming week more comfortable for hunting.
The second pic is wolf scat, with a 16 gauge shell for perspective. Another reason to keep the dogs close.
Good luck and have fun!

That wolf scat looks like it’s full of setter fur.

Hey guys. Sorry for the delayed response. We are staying at Big Falls County Campground which is right near Phillips and Ladysmith. We had a blast this last five days hunting. We are packing up and coming home tomorrow. We actually have no service so had to wait until I had some service to respond. We averaged close to 15 flushes a day but only got 3 or 4. The woodcock here are everywhere! And they taste delicious! Makes me not want to drive back to NJ. I’m trying to upload photos but think the poor service is not letting me.

Few years ago I had the backyard weeded. Fuzz over 935 cord of aspen. I kept all the veneer and hardwood.

The grouse/turkey/woodcock are on the return!!! Not to mention the deer!

As much as I've wanted to shoot last year, I kept my cool, bit the tongue, kicked the dash of the truck, swore, peacefully closed my eyes and said "next year"...
