I guess Wisconsin was the end of my season. I was considering going to New York but probably won’t have time.

 

Outstanding! what's your take on the turkey population overall? Myself and my son did well in Maryland this year but they were quiet and hunting was harder than normal. I did not hear as many birds as years past.

 

overall the birds seem to be holding their own in the areas I hunted.

 

I would say in MN the turkey hunting is in the "good old days" right now. Lots of turkeys all over the place. The population is still on the rise or perhaps at its peak. There are a good number of turkey hunters, but many hunt private land. There is some pressure on public land, but overall pretty light. Also, it seems most people hunt the first half of the season. Once fishing opener hits, the number of people hunting plummets. I myself enjoy late season turkey hunting, unless you choose a sit next to a swamp/mosquito factory. I'll be interested to hear turkinators take on the other states. MN is a 1 bird limit per spring season.

 

I will say I heard less gobbling in Alabama this spring than ever before. But their season is starting 10 days later than when I started hunting in Alabama. Add to that a super abundance of hens and you are prone to heat less gobbling. I was able to take 3 of the 4 allowed, and the ones I killed worked well. Ohio was a 15min season for the one bird limit. South Dakota merriams were not super easy to find but once you do you find a bunch! Wisconsin is a state I will go back to.

That’s so great. I lived in both southern MN and WI 30 years ago and Turkeys were nowhere to be seen. I’m in CA now, which and they’re everywhere, but your have lots of company on public land.

 

California is a someday state for me to turkey hunt. Would probably try to do Washington/Oregon/California in one trip

 

Yes, that would be a great trip. There’s great turkey hunting if you can find access in Northern and Central California.
