I picked up a Sears/Winchester/Cooey 840/37A/??? break 12Ga in "like new condition"
Nice and "tight"
Upon examination I don't think it's been fired (well maybe once?) with good reasons.

I initially thought I just had an ejector/extractor issue but those parts are pristine, touched them up to be absolutely sure...

With my brain properly engaged- or as close as I get - I suspect this thing left the factory
with the chamber undersized and the extractor bits just can't overcome.

Are these the dimensions I should see?:
12 Gauge = Chamber Length of 2 3/4",
.8100" Rear And .7980" Front Chamber Diameter.
12 Gauge = Chamber Length of 3",
.8111" Rear And .7980" Front Chamber Diameter.

As to what I can do if my suspicion is correct.... :?:

Do new, unfired shells go in the chamber easily?

But they are difficult to extract after firing?

If that's the case, they have steel bases (or maybe brass-plated steel bases) and expand tightly after firing. Polishing the chamber might help, but using shells with brass bases is the correct fix. Use Winchester AAs or Remington STS shells, as they have brass bases. (Remember, the "economy" loads from the same manufacturers have steel bases.) When in doubt, check 'em with magnet.

Thanks for those SAMMI specs.
Looks like 0.810 - 0.815 would be the correct range, 0.810 +0.005 /-0.000

The chamber is a very stingy .8100(0.809x?) upon measurement.
The same fired shell that wedges in just drops loosely into my browning.
I was hoping "we" had a plug gauge of appropriate size to check concentricity/"roundness"
but it was not to be, but didn't seem too bad with metrology available to me.

So I started with 400grit wrapped around a shell and attacked the first inch and a half or so, working to 2000grit, the fired shell drops in now and the extractor spring pulls it up, just about ready for a field test. It is still tighter than the browning so I'm reasonably sure I didn't over do it.

I check they various brands I have here and they are all plated so I think this will keep my ammo
"ubiquitous"
Thanks for the help guys
