My 10yr old has been shooting the Rossi 410 single. I'm looking to upgrade him without spending $700+ on a 391 or 11-87 yet. The Daly youth semi auto 20ga has the same LOP and actually weighes a little less than the Rossi. Just wondering if anyone here owns one or has tried one yet. Your feedback is MUCH appreciated.

Picked up a Daly youth 20ga semi-auto for my son and took him out over the weekend. He shot 2 and half boxes through it and is IN LOVE. Less kick and noise than the Rossi 410. Broke his first thrown clays. Started out with Fiocchi Lite trainer loads (which will not cycle the gun and auto eject BTW). Finished up with AA target and heavy field loads with no problem. I highly recommend this gun over single shot .410's for little guys and gals. They are available at WalMart (special order if not in stock) for about $290.

I just pick up the C.D. youth pump with camo at Walmart for only $159.... it was a Walmart exclusive with soft camo (camo stock and forearm)....I was looking for the auto but could not pass up this deal for my 11 yr.old for the holidays......it was sad to see him on a dove hunt with his Rossi .410 .....he did manage to hit one.....no more....this is my second C.D. from wallys.......I've had a semi 20ga. C.D. for 3 years now.....great gun for $299.....but boy the auto's do get dirty real fast.....lots of cleaning ......good auto just the same....only problem is most wallyworlds are not selling guns anymore.....I only found 2 stores in southern Ohio with guns now....and have not seen another gun like the one I got anywhere.Good luck !!!

It would seem from what I have read that Charles Daly are not the most dependable of autoloading shotguns.I have a weakness for any autoloader or pump shotgun that can digest 28 gauge shotshells. That being the case someday I would like to have one to try out.
There are some who have the Charles Daly autoloaders and love them.

For a low budget gun the charles daly's have been quite dependable from what I read....my Auto is going on its 4 season without a single issue........gosh don't know what else I can ask of it.....I'm very happy with it....lots dove and clays have went down with it....again the ? is not if its the most dependable gun and should not be compare with high-end guns...that would not be fair......but is it a good value for the $ ???......I have 2 of them and say ....great bang for the buck !!!!!

Great review at the above post, we just got back from testing out our new C.D. 20 ga. youth pump (see new pics in the gallery) and it pass with flying colors, very light gun, mounts nice and fast, recoil feels about the same as my C.D. semi auto, my boys in love with it !!! Again I've owned pumps before, but for only $ 159 at Wallys this gun is of excellent value. We are very happy at this point and more testing is to come.

We've been on the fence about which shotgun to get for my 11year old since he was 10 (it's almost a year from the month he passed his hunters safety on his first try :D).

We compared many and came down to a Rem 1100LT, Rem 11-87 youth, CD 20ga, and 870 youth. The 870 was written off after deciding that it was close enough in price to a used 1100 or new CD. As we were getting close to buying the 11-87, Remington gets bought out and the price increased dramatically!!!

So the dilemma of spend more or get another came up. Fortunately we came across this forum and thread so we decided to do some more research into the CD youth semi 20ga...

Today, a year after getting his hunters safety card, we spent a couple of hours at the trap range (mostly him with the range master doing excellent one on one instruction). That grin on his face after busting a few clays was priceless.

After a box of the Winchester ammo, starting with FTE's, the hulls were ejecting about 6 to 12 inches away which was great [after the first few FTE's, my son quipped "hey, why do you need an expensive O/U when this gun does the same with the shells?"]. I'm saving yellow hulls now just in case I have to dig out the reloader

Thanks to jds and Bobeau for posting their experiences. You guys are right on target with this shotgun!

I'll start by stating this Charles Daly 20ga semi-auto built by Akkar in Turkey came out of the box well oiled and surprisingly clean. ... Here's the 20ga ammunition we used:

[snip]
Winchester Super Target 2-3/4", 7/8oz. 7&1/2-shot (50-rounds)
[snip]

This shotgun fired & cycled every type/brand shell we tried on this list mentioned above 100% every time except for the Winchester Super Target value pack shells at first. [snip]
