Favorite FITASC Ammunition

I love shooting FITASC and given the number of long to very long targets I want to shoot excellent ammunition. And yes, I believe it makes a difference on these targets. I have been shooting B&P F2 Mach #7.5 @ 1300fps and I get excellent long distance breaks, but I'm willing to try a different ammo. A friend of mine swears by 1oz #7.5 RC4 Superniks @ 1290, while another shoots 24 gram Fiocchi #8 @ 1345. What do others like to shoot for this game and why?

I think RC4 super-nicks and B&P Mach 1oz 1250's (also nickel-plated shot) may be the best shotshell loads out there -- in fact, I believe they're the same load with just the different hull; and in that the B&P are a tad softer on recoil. However, those are 'spensive! And I feel they both pattern a good half-step tighter than a conventional, un-plated shotshell load, so when I do use them, I open up a half-choke from my normal...

All that said, my default favorite shell for competition remains the AA "gray kittys," the 1oz 1290 in #7-½'s -- and I be done.

I’m getting 10 flats of Mach 2 delivered for $105/flat and I’m very happy with that price. I appreciate the decreased recoil with the Gordon hull.
Emailed Clay Shooters Supply today and there will be RC4s for sale at the World FITASC. Think I’ll buy a flat of Superniks to see how they work for me.

My prediction: no different than the Mach's, but a teenybit more felt recoil.

Everyone has preferences, and I know there is no right answer, but I like shooting #7.5s. Keeps me from having to choose which ammo to load in my gun and I know that If I put my pattern on a target it will break.

Favorite shell for everything is 1oz 7.5 1170fps Fiocchi shooting dynamics. I have yet to find a target that won’t break with authority with that shell. If I am worried about the soft shot, I just tighten the choke.

I use 1250 fps 1oz 7.5 and 8 for FITASC (8 for midi & mini get extra 30 or so pellets to fill holes in pattern). I carry a few 1290/1300 1oz 7.5 and 8 for the 60-80 yd targets. Gamebore EVO, Borneghi, Fiocchi, Clever, Win AA, Armusa, Federal, Challenger, or Estate, based upon being on sale, reduced or free shipping. Gamebore EVO and Win AA are my favorite.

One of my best friends from work was and is a very good shooter. He taught me how to shoot skeet and sporting.
I wanted to show my appreciation for his contribution to my modest improvement. I asked him what was his favorite shell to shoot and it was the B&P F2. His shoulder was starting to hurt and he said the F2 was the best shell for him. I bought him two flats.

IMHO - 1 oz. of hard shot #7-1/2 @ 1150 - 1200 FPS will break any target with authority on any course at any distance.

Has anyone read Jimmy Mueller's blog posts about shell speeds?

and...

Mueller's observations are pretty consistent with most the findings about shell speed in Dr. A.C. Jones book "Sporting Shotgun Performance".

My go-to shell for FITASC and Sporting is the B&P F2, #7-1/2 at 1200 FPS (when I can find them). If I can't find those, WIN AA Xtra Light @ 1180 FPS are the backup.

Muller has been wrong before. Name a male All American that shoots 1200 feet per second or less shells?

Muller has something to sell. I ain't buying.

All that nonsense about spreading patterns with high velocity is just that...nonsense.

Try telling an olympic trap shooter that their 1325 fps load is a bad choice.

Watch someone shoot a 55 yd target with an 1145fps shell. Can they break it? Absolutely. It will break about the time their brain wants to register it as a miss. Watch someone shoot it with a 1300 fps shell....and witness the almost instantaneous break. If none of that affects your confidence level, good on ya ... only 7 more targets to go.

It's all about choices and thankfully we're all free to choose.

I saw that effects once (and 2-3 more times when it was not in a competition). Was a big teal, supposed to get closer, but nature and wind had different plans. It was lasered to 85-90. Shooter squeezed the trigger, nothing happens, made another move and squeezed a trigger again and target exploded right after the second shot report. We knew that he broke a target with a first shot. But that was really fun to watch, observe and experience. Brain is messed up... It thinks it broke it with a second, when in fact it broke it with the first.

Fun fact: it takes 0.7 of a second for a #7.5 bb to get to the 100 mark, with start velocity 1145fps. It takes 0.64 of a second for the same bb to the same mark if started at 1300fps.

Fun fact2: shot drift. We had a conversation not so long time ago about a wind impact on shooting. 10mph wind and at 50 yard mark bbs are drifted more than a foot (7.5 1300fps). #8 will be moved 2-3 inches more. And that's exactly what was observed: there was a "funky" target no one could touch by some reason. One guy said: we're shooting in wind, push it 2 feet to the left; target was stalling at the peak - it's stupid to shoot 2 feet to the left of a stopped target, right? It was proved we were wrong and guy was right. It's a very unusual and incredible feel... To shoot not where you "feel" it should go, but actually have a correction. Very conscious shooting, but results are fun.

I’ve shot the Little Rhinos and they perform well, but I feel a bit more recoil than from AA or HOA 1250s. I find it interesting that we don’t all perceive recoil the same way. One of my friends thinks the above AAs recoil more than HOAs while another thinks the opposite. I think they feel the same. We all shoot the same gun!
