This thread was never about why the benefit shooters won't shoot NSCA events. It's about getting feedback to see if registered shooters prefer mandatory money back to class, or class options.

I think is a regional thing. In So Cal it's all mandatory money back to class. In the Midwest it seems to be class options.

If money back to class becomes mandatory, I'm afraid it would encourage sandbagging and improper downclass requests. Heck, *I* would probably ask for the downclass to AA and I suspect I'm not alone...

I always figured the reason So Cal threw so many "non registered" shoots (with tough targets by the way) was so they could avoid punches and come to AZ in a lower class and kick our A$$.

Seriously, I think the Shoot YSR is talking about is subsidized by a local gun shop. That's why it's half the price. Other than target fees and some paperwork there's no reason an NSCA shoot should cost double. Maybe it's the cost of resetting the targets but if the targets are not reset we call that PRACTICE.

Depends on where the shoot is located. In my state a club needs to collect (per target) 4 cents for the NSCA, 3 cents for the State Association and another 1 cent per target for Scoring Pro. So the club needs to collect $8.00 per hundred right off the top in target tax and scoring service fees. Those fees are absorbed by the shooters, not the club. If the club brings in trappers,clerical help for scoring,labor to load machines,food and other extras it adds up quick. Shouldn't cost double but costs add up real quick based on the ability and staffing of the labor force at the club. Plus the club has to decide on pricing based on credit card convience fees, as most clubs accept credit cards.

And add in food, any prizes, even if they are coupons for targets, and the cost is more than $5 extra

I think YSR nailed it with it being a regional thing. I am lucky enough to live within an hour and fifteen minutes of Owen's Station, Schrader's, Hopkin's, Pintail Point, and M&M. All throw registered shoots with score keepers and mandatory back to class money with entry fees ranging from $90 to $125 and $15 to $30 BTC.

I shoot with any combination of about a dozen different guys and all of us but one, want the mandatory BTC. The one that doesn't is a Master Class shooter who doesn't place often. I can guarantee that if he placed regularly, he would want the BTC as well. The other shooters are scattered from D to AA and when we shoot well, we want to be rewarded with covering our costs. We may only like it because it's what we are used to but I don't think it hurts participation much if at all. M&M has it's Delaware River Classic next weekend with events running Friday through Sunday and they will have well over 300 shooters. All sporting events have mandatory class money included in the entry fee plus options and many people will shoot multiple events.

Of course we don't always finish in the money, but if the opportunity wasn't there to win some of this sport's cost back, we would shoot less if any registered targets. For the most part, we all feel the same way about SYO also. I don't mind getting beat by someone who shot well and deserves to win, I hate getting beat by a pencil!! Even our local league and fun shoots have scorekeepers and that's the way I hope it stays, even if it cost 15-20 bucks more a round.

If monthly tournaments were $125.00 per 100 targets the monthly tournaments would cease to exist in a hurry. Monthly are normally $50.00 to $60.00 with no back to class money. Optional back to class is $10.00

60 with no BTC and no scorekeepers? No, my preference would be pay 100 with 20 BTC and have scorekeepers. I shot a SYO shoot in the midwest in July. It was done as (4) 50 bird events with scores totaled for 200 targets. A good idea for punch chasers and getting shooters through the door. It was advertised as European start which here always has scorekeepers. I figured with the lesser cost, there was no BTC money and there wasn't, but I did think there would be scorekeepers. I think it cost about 140 to sign up including optional $10 Lewis and $10 BTC. I was away on vacation, relaxed, excited to shoot in a new state and shot very well with a 195. I've been shooting since 95 and have had a little success here and there and usually know by the targets I give away, about where I will end up and what will win. I was tied with another 195 who shot Friday when not many people were there shooting. His average in 2015 was 75/100, no M punches and refused the DC. I was told by a local there was no way he shot that score. I don't know the guy and he may have had a great day, but in looking at his history, all of his great days are there and SYO. He was awarded the trophy by a tie breaker station and I left feeling pencil whipped. 195s are hard for all but the Top guys to land even on a softer course, people RARELY have that kind of jump. He may have and I hope he truly did shoot the score he posted, but SYO leaves too much doubt. I will pay extra to have qualified scorekeepers.

A couple of other clubs have lost attendance but it was due to poorly ran shoots, "unfair" targets, traps breaking etc, not entry fees.

The midwest is not the mid atlantic and your prices will not fly here. It's called knowing what the market will bear.

+1 mparkhurst2. I have one club in my area that has mandatory money back, it's the only place I shoot. He provides a great lunch too, all for less than $75.00. And his attendance is equal to or slightly higher the option only shoots. But his targets and attention to detail are much better than other clubs.

Around here, (central FL), $70 is a SYO with BTC $$$, we don't have the cheating that seems prevalent in TX
